Quick History
So before I even knew what music was, I was put onto Classic Rock from the 60s and 70s by my dad
and Worship music by my mom. It wasn't until 7th grade where I was introduced to the Arctic Monkeys.
Since then I renounced my ways of only listening to what my parents listened to and began my own music journey.
Fast forward to current day where I love listening to lengthy songs with meaning behind every lyric. I also love
talking about those meanings and my personal spin on them and how I've related them to my own life.
Favorite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys
This album means so much to me. It's the first album that I listened to that was something my parents wouldn't.
I was introduced to it by my 7th grade girlfriend, and have loved it ever since. There were so many new sounds
that I had never heard before from Alex's vocals to Matt's insane drumming. There was just something so new
about it to me that made it so alluring. This was the first album that made me want to learn the songs for myself
so that I could play them on guitar.
Worst Album Ever - Ricky Jamaraz
Starting off with an album that (as far as I know)
doesn't have the most meaning, but meant a lot to me.
I first discovered it in 8th grade in 2023. I had my current playlist on Spotify's 'Smart Shuffle', and the song 'Microwave' popped up while I was taking the bus to school.
I instantaneously fell in love with it's upbeat sound and silly lyrics. The amount of times I referenced this song between myself and
everyone around me has started to become a joke. I listened to the full album sometime later that year and fell in love with it.
I loved the little character arc between Ricky and the radio host, especially in the last song. I loved the song Microwave so much that I ended
up playing it at my school's talent show on my guitar. This whole album holds a special place in my heart
being the first album I found and listened to on my own.
Honestly - Ricky Jamaraz
This album is just simply peak. I
ALWAYS put this album on when I'm in a bad mood and it just fits the vibe perfectly.
When I first got this CD and read the little booklet it came with, it hit me like a TRUCK that these songs were based off of Ricky's life.
I'm not sure why I didn't think of it before reading it; maybe because it was such a stark contrast to Worst Album Ever.
I actually regard this album as one of the main reasons that I got through my 8th grade breakup just because of how much
I related to Ricky's music. My Little Drug made me feel not so guilty in a time when I really needed it.
